GOODELL FAMILY LETTERS- #44

Anson to Parents

Brookfield
Dec. 10, 1865

Dear Father:

The weather moderated enough yesterday so that we could come by the way of Charlton Depot but we did not decide to come that way until it was nearly time to start so that I could not come and get that box of Mr. Penniman’s which I did not get in the morning because I expected to go to Webster and thought we would call for it as we went along.

Will you send it by express to me and I will get it to W. Brookfield and thence to Ware Village or its destination perhaps it would be better not to say anything to Mr. Penniman about it – however just as you please about it.

We arrived safely after a very pleasant ride to Charlton and to Brookfield. I couldn’t get a team to carry us to the house so we had to trudge along “cross lots, crying.” Ellen carrying the baby & I the carpet back – found everything frozen up but when we soon thawed out by a pine fire but best of all this morning we found the water had started in our well – so guess we shall not have to lug it much longer.

Bub Eddie is well though having a slight cold & a little windy.

You can send those things whenever convenient.

                                                                                    Lovingly

                                                                                           Anson
