GOODELL FAMILY LETTERS- #2

Anson to his Parents

                                                                                    Camp Lincoln

                                                                                    Tuesday Eve [Oct. 31, 1861]

Dear Parents

This is the last time positively I shall have to direct my letters from Camp Lincoln. Tonight we received our marching orders. After Dress parade this Eve the Colonel[1] told the Captains who announced to Companies that we leave Camp positively on Thursday Eve, day after tomorrow. I shall not come home simply because I cannot get a pass. I should like very much to see you here the day we break camp and as many of the folks as can come. The boys received the intelligence with great cheering and all are having a good time at the very welcome news.

We are al well. Our Cap.[2] Said nothing as to where we are ordered. Today we had a splendid flag made by the ladies of Worcester. Also the Adjutant was presented with a splendid horse. This afternoon we were kept under arms from d,__ to about 6- but we had a very good time however.

I’ll not write much as I wish to write considerable letters this eve.

                        Yours with love

                        Good Night  Anson

[1] Colonel Edwin Upton
[2] Captain Albert H. Foster
